Best of South Africa
9 – 21 August 2009

 

We begin our safari in the most beautiful city in the world, Cape Town. We have two days to explore the city.. We will also visit the winelands. We will also visit the best private lodges and camps in the Kruger National Park area.

Accommodation will be the same standard as found in On Safari: The Source of Safaris in East and Southern Africa, the book created from the last Focus on Africa Project.



Maximum Participants: 4 – This safari is designed for two couples sharing a private vehicle staying in the most up-market camps in South Africa. These camps cost over $1,000 per per person per night and will be discounted for a select number of qualified photographers.
Photographer Leader: No professional photographer will accompany this group unless requested by the group. The cost for a professional photographer escort varies. Contact Focus on Africa for a list of the top conservation photographers. David Anderson is also available to escort this safari, again at an additional cost. Photographers participating in this safari will be able to submit images for possible submission into the second edition of On Safari!

Our Itinerary
Sunday – Monday, 9 – 10 August 2009
Cape Town
Upon arrival today, we are met and transferred to our hotel. On the first day, we enjoy a private tour of Cape Town. On the second day, we will have a full day tour of Cape Point.

Tuesday – Wednesday, 11 – 12 August 2009
The Cape Winelands
After a tour of Robbin Island, we head for the winelands were we will have a full day tour.

Thursday – Saturday, 13 – 15 August 2009
Timbavati
Our safari begins with a flight to the new Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. On arrival we are met and transferred to our private game lodge. On the western edge of Kruger National Park lies Timbavati Nature Reserve. The reserve is comprised of a number of private reserves. It is considered one of South Africa’s prime game viewing areas. During our visit we are likely to see the “big five” on morning and evening game drives.

Sunday – Monday, 16 – 17 August 2009
Thornybush Game Reserve
We continue our safari in the Thornybush Game Reserve. We have three days to photograph on morning and afternoon game drives. Our afternoon game drives continue after dark.

Tuesday – Thursday, 18 – 20 August 2009
Sabi Sand
We continue this morning to our next private game reserve in the Sabi Sand located next to the Kruger National Park. We will look for and photograph leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, cheetah...the list goes on. Our expert rangers and guides take us on morning, afternoon and evening game viewing drives, which reveal the ever-changing tapestry of the African bush.

Not included are international airfare and internal South Africa airfare and personal expenses such as personal insurance; excess baggage fees; phone calls; gratuities to guides and camp staff; airport departure taxes; passport and visa fees, and beverages.
