Focus on Zimbabwe
17 - 29 May 2009

The Focus on Zimbabwe Safari takes us to the best parks along the Zambezi Valley. From Lake Kariba, the giant inland lake created by the damming of the Zambezi River to Hwange and Matusadona National Parks, this safari gives you an in-depth view of the different habitats that surround the Zambezi Valley. The river is the lifeblood of the region and wildlife abounds. We will spend four days photographing in one of Africa’s best parks, Mana Pools. We will use airplanes, vehicles, ferries, walking and canoes through our exploration of the Zambezi Valley.

We will also photograph and pay at Victoria Falls, one of our planet's World Heritage Sites.

Accommodation will be in the luxury lodges and camps featured in On Safari.

Maximum Participants: 8

Johannesburg – Victoria Falls - Hwange National Park
Today we fly to Victoria Falls where we are transferred, by air, to Hwange National Park. The area within the park is ecologically diverse, including vast, open palm fringed plains, grasslands, woodlands, and forests. This ensures a great number of animals year round - including elephants, rhino, buffalo, sable, roan, giraffe and sometimes even gemsbok. The area is one of the best for predators and we can expect to view lion, leopard, wild dog and cheetah along with the smaller African wild cat, serval, honey badger, civet and hyena.
Lodging TBA

Thursday – Saturday, 21 –23 May 2009
Hwange - Matusadona National Park
We fly to Kariba today and enter Matusadona National Park on the shores of Lake Kariba. We will have three days of game viewing. Matusadona National Park has an enormous buffalo population and the country’s largest concentration of black rhino. We will also see elephant, hippo, lion and greater kudu.
Lodging TBA

Sunday – Wednesday, 24 - 27 May 2009
Matusadona - Mana Pools National Park
The scenic beauty of Zimbabwe unfolds as we fly over the mountains into the Zambezi Valley to Mana Pools National Park. The park borders the Zambezi River, which is home to crocodile and hippopotamus. Our three days at Mana Pools will include game drives, nature walks and an optional canoeing excursion on the Zambezi. We will see elephant, lion, several species of antelope and, if we are lucky, leopard. Our evenings will be spent in our camp overlook the river.
Lodging TBA

Thursday, 28 May 2009
